Alexandria Ybarra (Tongva, Chumash, & Xicana) is an emerging ceramicist, watercolorist, and basket weaver whose practice brings together traditional and contemporary techniques to explore culture, identity, land, water, and Indigenous femmehood. Rooted in her personal journey of reconnecting with her Ancestral roots, Alexandria creates work that reflects the complexity of belonging and the resilience of Indigenous ways of knowing and being. Working with natural earth elements, pigments, her practice is grounded in a desire to reconnect with the more-than-human relatives, landscapes, and water that have always held and shaped her. As someone whose Ancestral homelands have been transformed by concrete, pollution, and environmental toxins, Alexandria creates with art as a space to remember, imagine, and reclaim relationships with herself, her Ancestors, community, land, and water. Her work often moves between the physical, spiritual, and dream worlds, inviting reflection on what has been disrupted, what continues to survive, and what might be possible when we return to ways of seeing ourselves as deeply interconnected with the living world. Through these explorations, she seeks to create spaces for collective reflection, renewal, and healing.

    A sacred medicine gifted by Creator to guide our ways, —known as momoy—is a relative that blooms at dusk and rests midday when the sun is at its highest point, reflecting the solar stillness. This ephemeral rhythm mirrors the fleeting yet profound wisdom it carries.

    The glaze streaming inward within the flute reflects the medicine’s gifts, inviting us to journey inward and uncover the overflowing abundance of inner knowing. Though momoy appears delicate on the surface, it holds a powerful core, reminding us that true strength and understanding often lie deep within.

    A homage to our oceanic relatives, the corals, these handmade ceramic candle holders celebrate the interconnectedness of all life and the elements that sustain it; earth, water, air, and fire. Central to their essence is the element of fire, reflecting the flame within each of our beings. 

    These candle holders serve as an invitation to acknowledge the sacredness of all that makes up our being and to honor the elements and our ancestors for this life by sharing our light, our stories, with those who echo reciprocity, inviting collective balance and harmony through connection to all elements.

    Wheel-thrown ceramic mugs feature hand-placed thorns accompanied with a slab-built vine tray. This tea set is in honor of the duality of life’s beauty and rigidness. The thorns are a symbol of protection, and the vines represent healing and growth, and the orchid decals that lie inside are a reminder of the power of vulnerability. 

    This sea set tells a story of the process of relationships, with each sip being an invitation to reflect - honoring the process of surrender as an integral part of the human experience. Whether enjoyed in a moment of solitude or shared with loved ones, these vessels transform the act of drinking tea into a ceremony—an intimate connection to the earth, the self, and relatives.
